Ward library 100!

A big celebration has been held in Peel, to mark the centenary of the Ward Library in Castle Street.

The Chairman of the town's commissioners, Pat Sweeney, re-opened the facility by unveiling a new plaque.

Those present included Kitty Allen, who celebrated her own 100th birthday in July, and still reads books from the library.

Also present were relatives of the five people who have held the position of librarian since 1907.

Today (Friday) is the second of three open days, at which old photographs of Peel and information about the library will be on display.

The Ward Library was presented to Peel by James Kewley Ward, who was born in the town and made money in the lumber industry in Canada.
